Dr. Wilking attended Harvard College where he studied English literature. He obtained his medical degree from Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons. Following the completion of his residency in pediatrics and fellowship in pediatric rheumatology, he opened an office in Providence, Rhode Island. After five years there, he was asked to join the faculty of Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.
During his 25 years in Texas, Dr. Wilking established satellite clinics for children with rheumatic diseases in Beaumont, Austin, Victoria, Corpus Christi, El Paso and Harlingan and was the sole physician providing services to those clinics. In addition, he devoted significant time and energy to improving medical education, developing programs for students, residents and faculty. He received both the Barbara and Corbin J. Robertson, Jr. Presidential Award for Excellence in Education and the Arnold J. Rudolph Pediatric Award for Lifetime Excellence in Teaching from Baylor. He is currently Professor Emeritus of Pediatrics at Baylor.
Dr. Wilking enjoys reading novels and history and makes furniture in his woodworking shop. He has been married to Dr. Marilyn Wilking for more than 30 years; the couple has three daughters.
